The wavy edge design of these hook and loop discs overhangs the pad and folds around the edge to help prevent gouging caused by the edge of the disk contacting the surface of the wood. These contour sanding discs are tearing resistant cloth backed sanding media which is flexible and smoothly conforms to curves.
